RESORT GUIDE TO HAKUBA

Major Ski Resorts

Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba 47
*5 min from Hakuba Powder Lodging by shuttle bus     [website]
Hakuba 47 and Hakuba Goryu are connected together, making it the second largest resort in Hakuba. Hakuba Goryu & 47 is just minutes from our lodge, and with trails to suit various skill levels, definitely worth a visit. The Goryu gondola takes you one lift away from the summit. When conditions are perfect you will be lifted over 900 vertical meters in about 15 minutes. Hakuba 47 has the best terrain park in the valley, popular for their super pipe, big kickers and other numerous features. You'll find great backcountry hiking access from the top of this resort, however care must be given to numerous slide paths. If you go out into the backcountry, be prepared. Please don't be afraid to ask for our advice. We have access to avalanche forecasts and knowledge about where many of the danger areas are.
Vertical rise: 920m / Longest course: 6.4km / Lifts: 19

Hakuba Happo One Ski Resort
*5 min from Hakuba Powder Lodging by shuttle bus     [website]
The nearest resort to our lodge, and also the biggest in the valley. Happone hosted the 1998 Olympic Downhill races. Happo offers a vertical rise of 1071m, has the longest courses in the valley and boasts the most terrain. Its above-alpine wide open fields give way to perfectly spaced trees below. Happone's trails offer something for everyone, with great beginner slopes in the Saka area and more challenging terrain higher up on Skyline and Usagidaira. If out-of-bounds powder is what you are seeking, you can ride all the terrain and features Happo has to offer, at your own risk. Lap after lap, the powder never ends. Happo also offers endless backcountry terrain for the prepared backcountry rider. If you go out into the backcountry, please be prepared. Please don't be afraid to ask for our advice. We have access to avalanche forecasts and knowledge about where many of the danger areas are.
Vertical rise: 1070m / Longest course: 8km / Lifts: 31

Hakuba Iwatake
*7 min from Hakuba Powder Lodging by shuttle bus     [website]
This resort is great for families and beginner/intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Smaller than Happo or Goryu & 47, Hakuba Iwatake is also worth checking out. The gondola takes you to the summit from where there are trails going down all directions of the mountain. In addition to the family-friendly atmosphere, there are a number of different tree-skiing options. For the jumpers, Iwatake has a small park at the top of the mountain with smaller features, including rails, a spine, a quarter pipe and kickers. The Iwatake park is more spread out and less busy compared to the one at 47.
Vertical rise: 539m / Longest course: 3.8km / Lifts: 16

Other Major Area Resorts:

Tsugaike Kogen
*15 min from Hakuba Powder Lodging by shuttle bus     [website]
Tsugaike Kogen is famous for wide open cruising slopes. You will find great grooming and sustained pitches, although not the steepest. The resort has many lifts, and if you stay away from the gondola on the weekend you can get many runs in. Tsugaike Kogen also has some great open tree runs. The DBD club is located at the top of the resort and has a great pitch. Tsugaike also offers some of the best back country skiing in the region. If you go out into the backcountry, be prepared. Please don't be afraid to ask for our advice. We have access to avalanche forecasts and knowledge about where many of the danger areas are. Please ask us how to best get to this resort a day ahead of time. We will arrange to get you to the proper pick-up point for the shuttle bus. Norikura Kogen
*20 min from Hakuba Powder Lodging by shuttle bus     [website]
Norikura Kogen is great escape from the crowds. Although this resort lacks very high vertical, it gets well over 400 inches of snow each season. With hardly any crowds, the powder last that much longer. Norikura builds many park features for the park riders out there. If conditions are right the resort will build 2 half pipes. You can also find some nice mellow tree runs for those just starting to venture in the trees. Please ask us how to best get to this resort a day ahead of time. We will arrange to get you to the proper pick up point for the shuttle bus. Please note that the shuttle bus to this resort is not free.

When the snow is on at Cortina you are going to get a powder experience that you will never forget. The trees here are closed unfortunately but that doesn't mean it isn't worth the trip. For 3800 yen, you can get a lift ticket, restaurant lunch worth up to 1000 yen and a spa after skiing. Cortina has the biggest spa in the Hakuba area. Please ask us how to best get to this resort a day ahead of time. We will arrange to get you to the proper pick up point for the shuttle bus.
